Welcome to Micratena
At Micratena, we inspire a sense of responsibility for conserving our vital insect populations while addressing the urgent challenges of climate change. Our initiatives prioritize biodiversity conservation, honor the traditions of indigenous communities, and the creation of inclusive opportunities that empower women and marginalized groups as leaders in environmental stewardship.
Micratena is actively involved in community projects that promote insect conservation, sustainable agriculture and climate-resilient practices. By integrating a gender equity approach into our work, we ensure that everyone, regardless of background can participate in building a sustainable future. Join us in our efforts and learn more about our initiatives.
Support our mission by visiting Wings and Earth Shop, where you can currently purchase eco-compatible Chalum Cafe. While we offer coffee today, we’re excited to expand our selection in the future to include more ecological products and crafts created by advocates of insect conservation.
Join us in cultivating a healthier planet, one meaningful choice at a time. Whether through your purchase, subscribing to our newsletter, or getting involved in our conservation projects, every action contributes to a better, more sustainable future.
The vital role of Insects in Ecosystems and Human well-being
First of all, it’s important to understand the fact that Insects are the food web base for the survival of reptiles, amphibians, birds, mammals, spiders, other insects and plants. Thus, it’s clear that if insect populations decrease there will be a cascade effect on animals that depend on them to survive.
There are many ecological services relaying on insect populations, as human beings we depend on them. For instance, the insects are organic material decomposers; provide us of natural and effective fertilizers; contribute to water filtration, carbon sequestration and flood and erosion control; they keep in balance other insects populations around the glove; they are a high protein food source for humans, their migration and beauty develop sustainable tourism and most of the food we eat depend in part to their ecological role.
Think Over!
Conserving insect populations ensures the stability of food webs and the continued provision of these essential ecosystem services.
Insects such as pollinators, natural predators of pests, and decomposers contribute significantly to healthier and more productive farming ecosystems.
Edible insects like chapulines (grasshoppers), escamoles (ant larvae), and jumiles (stink bugs) are cherished delicacies in various regional cuisines, offering a sustainable and nutritious food source.
